Will only get worse, with easy access to high powered automatic weapons and people with a grudge = disaster.

I see you are the US equivalent of our Thatch wankers.

Nobody in the past 30 years, left or right, has been able to do anything to correct anything that Reagan (note correct spelling) did, and it is all his fault. Even though for more than half of the time since he left office there has been a Democrat President.

There's nothing stopping this from spiralling out of control and more copy cat massacres. They've got more guns than people.

Good Christian country...God bless America and all that. Advanced country....

I dont think you can really entirely blame the left for the tacial problems of America Hermit neither can you disregard the issues of its past and the impact it has on the present.

However one death on either side os clearly one too many, and one perpetrated by police on unarmed civilians is definetely something which needs addressing. Not saying we get everything right over here but our gun controls and the balance of armed and non armed police seems to be about right.

I've always considered myself 'on the left'. How come no one has ever let me into all these conspiracies I keep reading about here?

America's Gun lovers will simply blame Obama for every negative because Ignorance is bliss, Guns kill, America is full of loons and yet they will fight to the death for the right to Bare Arms. I will never understand them and how their brains work.

What Is happening to the police is very worrying but Cameras are fucking them up big time, they cannot hide any more and the fact that the Law backs them regardless makes things worse.

I've lived in Houston Texas for the past three years and here's my take on it.

There's a commercial currently running to join the NRA for a 25% discount, believe it or not! Texas women are great (no really they are) but I don't date women who have a photo on a dating site with a photo of them with a dead deer they've just shot with a gun or crossbow. I don't toot (honk) my horn for someone who cuts me up on the road cus they could have a gun in their glove compartment. I'm careful of women who tell me they have a concealed weapons license. I make sure my car windows are up and doors loocked when I'm in an area where the local store has bars on the windows. I've been to a dinner where the husband has shown the new diamond studded gun he's just bought his wife for her birthday. It's an attitude completely alien to me, but it's their culture.

So what do I say when they ask me what I think about the gun culture? I say I abhore it but if I was ever in a situation where someone was trying to kill me I hope the person next to me had a gun to shoot back! Don't know how that helps in the discussion, just telling you my experience y'all...

Re: Eight police officers shot in Louisiana
Debs. As I've said before on here, clearly there are more whites than blacks so on the face of it, there are disproportionately more blacks killed by police than whites. If you really want to add context though you need to look at the percentage of mirders and violent crime committed by black people.

Lastly, what about the context of this, white people are much more likely to be killed by black people than vice versa. How does that fit into the current, divisive narrative of black people being under attack?

What we are seeing is the left driving division through propagating falsehoods, and the results are increasingly lethal.

Re: Eight police officers shot in Louisiana
Since Regan took the yanks further to the right its impossible for many Americans to think beyond themselves. They already leaned that way because the country was born out of individual endeavor, but since the Reagan years it's gone crazy. There's almost no ability to comprehend their ability to go buy an assault rifle at their local store may also have some consequences for wider society.

They have also been provided with ready lines to help them think that situation is actually awesome.

Re: Eight police officers shot in Louisiana
Hermit, I take on board some of what you say as do US authorities who are investigating police killings of US citizens, but there is a caveat as there is a recognition of the need to consider proportionality in these statistics.

This article is a bit long but worth looking at if not at least for a bit of balance.

The fucking idiots that are American gun owners would rather sacrifice lives than give up their guns.

They are too stupid and too selfish to realise that it's the availability of guns that is causing this problem.

They are utter fuckwits.

Unarmed?

A white geezer was on video being shot last week. He was unarmed. No doubt it was a terrible tragedy, but it was hard to see that the officers had any choice.

Michael Brown in Fergusan probably counts as unarmed, though he was shot in the process of trying to disarm the copper. An unarmed shooting nonetheless.
